The Residences at Riverwalk was originally the Comstock Hotel-Casino built in 1978. The building had 160 rooms, 325 slot machines, 20 table games, as well as 3,000 square feet of convention space. The décor was harking back to the 1860’s silver-boom days in Virginia City. The employees of the Comstock dressed in period garb. In 1986 the Comstock went through a significant renovation which added seven stories to the building, making it the 16 it has today, as well as doubling the number of rooms. In 1999 the building was acquired by Los Angeles based Hertz Corp. which converted the hotel into low-income housing. In 2004 the property was purchased by the current owner and developed into The Residences at Riverwalk.
